Herschel Park update

As a result of legislation introduced by City Council President Michael Corrigan, we have all the funding in place for the Herschel Street Reforestation Project! The bill was passed the beginning of August and now we can move forward with the next steps in this project.

We have a deadline to meet for the State funding as well as hospitable planting conditions and have set forth the following timeline:

City Funding in placeAugust 31, 2006
First Review of Plans September, 2006
Final Plans Prepared October, 2006
Bids out November, 2006
Award contracts, Begin Demolition December, 2006
Commence Contract Work January, 2007
Volunteer Planting February, 2007
Press Event March/April, 2007

The final plans for the park will be available at the next neighborhood meeting.

11/6/2006 UPDATE:
The schedule has been modified to avoid neighborhood disruptions during the holiday season. Demolition will now begin January 15th, and land grading and installation will begin February 5th.
